SMARTBoards and Kerpoof
Some websites get me so excited about the potential for incorporating digital learning. One of these sites is a new website called Kerpoof. It's very had to describe what Kerpoof is; even the people at Kerpoof find it difficult. Here is what they say...
What is Kerpoof? The answer to that is not so simple. Kerpoof is always changing, and Kerpoof means different things to different people. In fact, Kerpoof presents different things to different people according to what they do. So, if you want know what Kerpoof is, you will have to spend time discovering things about Kerpoof and getting to know Kerpoof, just like you would a person.
Kerpoof doesn't come with a manual or a directory or a map. If we've done our job right, then finding your way to the various nooks and crannies of Kerpoof will be half the fun. Kerpoof is all about having fun, discovering things, and being creative.

If you're like me, this description is vague and leaves the reader saying, "What?" However, they do have a point, you will need to play around on the site to get a good feel for what it is. Here are some of the things you can do:
Kerpoof lets you create animated stories (movies) or coloring sheets (scenes) to incorporate into the lesson. kerpoof makes this process incredibly easy and fun. You can also share what you create and select from an extensive library of things created by other students and teachers. In addition to creating media, Kerpoof has recently added a great doodling tool called Super Doodle which is perfect for the SMART Board. Kerpoof also allows students to work together in a collaborative manner while working on their own computer. This is an extremely important concept to introduce to kids since this form of communication and collaboration is becoming mainstream. Finally, Kerpoof provides a safe environment for chatting and communicating with other students. It's so important for teachers to educate students on proper ways of communicating via the Internet, and Kerpoof can be used as a tool to introduce this concepts to students.
Still confused? Try going to the site and watch the demonstration video. Also, if you click on the "For Teachers" link, you'll find more information on how other teachers are using this amazing site.
