SMART Board and Screencasts: Using FreeScreencast.com

I have become a very big fan of the FreeScreenCast.com website that allows you to record, save, and view screencasts quickly and easily. Best of all, it's free!!

I will demonstrate how to create a screencast video using the FreeScreenCast.com website and Screencast Recorder application that you download from the FreeScreenCast.com website.

This first video takes you through the process of how to record your screencast. The second video shows you the actual screencast.

That's a great question! In order to create a video of how to use freescreencast.com, I needed to use another screen recorder to capture everything I was doing with freescreencast.com. I chose the Smart Recorder since many people on this blog are familiar with it.

While I love the Smart Recorder, using an application like freescreencast.com or Jing allows you to automatically upload the screen recording to the Internet for instant access. With the Smart Recorder, I had to process the video to shrink it in size and then I had to upload it to the Internet. Finally, to display the video on my blog, I had to write the embed code. When you use the application from freescreencast.com, you have the video compressed and ready for sharing on the Internet. The site also generates the embed code for you so all you need to do is copy and paste it into your blog or website.

For most people, taking a video from your hard drive and sharing it on the Internet is a difficult process. That's why YouTube and TeacherTube are popular. If you're using the Smart Recorder, I would recommend uploading video to TeacherTube if you want to share it over the Internet.

Hope that helps!

Jim, just so I know if anyone should ask, what is the benefit/advantage of using FreeSreencast vs. SMART recorder. Also, why were you using both in the example?

Are you using a headset microphone for recording your voice?
