I have a draft about a website called Wordle that I was planning on posting next week. However, I found a much better post about Wordle that also has a fun lesson plan. The post called Wordle: Using Word Clouds in a Lesson comes from one of my favorite blogs called Box of Tricks. I highly recommend that you subscribe to the blog. In his post, José describes how he uses an interactive whiteboard to help with the lesson.
If you come up with any cool ways to use Wordle, let us know!
Here's the "word cloud" for my last post on Smartboards and Algebra. See if you can guess what my post is about before you read it.
Thanks José for another great post!
Sharing is Caring!
Thanks James for the very positive mention. I also subscribe to your blog and think it's great and bursting with brilliant ideas to use with the IWB.
Let's keep in touch via Twitter too!

Greatly appreciate all your great resources! I used wordle.net with my third graders this week and it was awesome! They typed their name a few times, then listed adjectives that described themselves. I would like to do this again and have them "poll" classmates so that we get the "frequency/larger words" piece involved. Next week we are going to do wordle using a character from our basal story and discussing character traits.
Thanks again!

Great Post! Here is another example of using wordle with an IWB. I created a wordle word splash using the vocabulary words to introduce a new story. After importing it to my notebook, I used the shape tool to cover the individual words. Students then came to the board to reveal a word. They had to give me a sentence, a synonym, an antonym or tell me the syllable count of the word they revealed. This activity is great for building vocabulary and also a great way to provide differentiated instruction.

Hi there. I've just stumbled across your site and think it's fantastic. I have had a Smart board in my classroom for about a year now and am still discovering fun and fantastic ways to use it. I'd never thought of using a Wordle before. Co-incidentally, we are returning after (Australian) school holidays on Monday and I've been wracking my brains trying to think of a great way to begin a unit on healthy eating, starting with the focus question, 'What Is Healthy?' Think I may have just found it!
Oh and btw, you are correct.....Teachers DO love Smart Boards!

These are great ideas. I think it would be fun to do the student self-description wordles and the novel characterization wordles without using names and then post them around the room and have students try to guess who's who.
