SMARTBoards and Holiday Word Search Activities

Each one has a riddle or a question hidden at the top of the word search puzzle. To find the answer, students use the Highlighter Pen in the Notebook Toolbar to find the words in the list. Notebook Video Tutorial - Color in a Freehand Drawing
Oddly enough, two people asked me this week how to color in a freehand drawing using the Smart Notebook software. Even though you cannot use the Fill Tool to color fill a freehand drawing, there are a couple of ways to accomplish this in Notebook.
Here's a short video tutorial that demonstrates how to draw a freehand image of a lake and color it blue.You can use the same technique in succession to color fill multiple enclosed areas of a detailed freehand drawing.

The image of the flower was created in Notebook using the procedure from the video. I used the technique shown in the video three times in a row. Each time I simply changed the color of the rectangle, captured the image, and used the Set Picture Transparancy option. Easy Peazy Lemon Squeezy.
Note: If you purchased the Math Tools, you can use the Irregular Polygon tool to create unique shapes and then use the Fill Tool to add color.

SMARTBoards and Learning How to Create Notebook Lessons
Whenever my 3 year old son Wesley is around other people, he loves to show off his talent for telling time. He actually knows how to tell time to the minute and he is rarely, if ever, wrong.
I don't consider Wesley to be more intelligent than other children his age. He was just very, very motivated in learning how to tell time.
Motivation is such an important factor in learning. This is as much true for educators as it is for students. As adult educators, our motivation for learning can be vastly different as it is for students and utilizing adult learning principals is extremely important when developing Professional Development resources.
During my graduate studies, I did an action research project on why so many teachers were not taking advantage of the myriad of training resources available to them in the area of educational technology.
One of the key conclusions of my research was that the Professional Development resources available to educators were not incorporating adult learning principals. As a result, educators were not motivated enough to utilize the available resources.
My research led me to design a Professional Development system called Teacher Online Training that incorporates adult learning principals to help teachers learn how to use the SMART Notebook software.
Teacher Online Training recognizes that educators want to have control over what they're learning; they want to be able to use their life experiences during the learning process; and they need to apply what they're learning directly to their situation.

SMARTBoards and Notebook Training: Revealing Information Using Animation - Series 1
I've just released a new course on my SMART Board Learning Management System called Notebook Techniques: Revealing Information Using Animation - Series 1.
This short-course will
guide the participant through the process of using object animation as a way of providing instant feedback during a
lesson.
In
addition to learning how to apply the animation property to objects,
participants will practice/learn how to place an image inside a color
rectangle, group objects together, add and modify text object
properties, and change the ordering of objects on a page.
This is a self-paced course and requires version 10 of the Smart Notebook software.

This course will guide the participant through the process of creating an interactive puzzle inside Smart Notebook version 10. Participants will utilize various features of Notebook including alignment guides, default fonts, and page backgrounds. In addition, participants should become very proficient at controlling and manipulating objects using locking, grouping, and ordering. In addition, this project introduces the use of object animation to produce some cool effects.
